Boston Marathon – Miles for Miracles 2009/11/16

Very soon, at the end of April 2010 I’ll be running the Boston-2-Big-Sur Challenge, which means that I’ll be running the Boston Marathon on Monday the 19th and then the Big Sur Marathon 6 days later! And I’m shooting for a finish time of 3:17 which is a 7:30 pace (the Boston qualifying time for my age is 3:20; not bad for a 200-pound guy, eh?).

I feel so grateful that I’m healthy enough to run in the World’s Premier Running Event followed by perhaps the World’s Most Beautiful Running Event.

So I want to give something back, and being the father of a great little 5-year-old I have a soft spot for children. I want to help Boston’s wonderful Children’s Hospital help more children. I’m fundraising for this charity because I believe so strongly in all the good things Children’s Hospital Boston does for kids, especially being unusually sensitive to what sick and injured children and their families really need, and welcoming kids whose families can’t afford health care.

I know this economy has been tough for just about everyone, but please help me help the kids!

  • Pretend you’re buying me a beer at the pub, or a fancy cup of coffee… even just $5 will add up and do wonders!
  • Or sponsor me per mile: 26 miles times 2 is 52 miles, so 50 cents/mile is only $26, or a buck a mile is a much-appreciated $52.
  • Of course, if you can afford more and would like to give $100 or more, please do!!
  • If I’ve ever given you free advice in the past (even if you felt it was worth only what you paid for it!), now is the time to pay it forward, to the kids.

So go ahead and use the “Give Now” button on my Miles for Miracles page (click the image below):

Or if you prefer to avoid an online transaction, you can send me a check made out to Children’s Hospital Boston (contact me for my street address); I then send groups of checks to Children’s. And don’t forget to check whether your employer will match your donation!

Please don’t wait!!! Distractions happen! There’re interim fundraising deadlines, and I definitely need your help! Time flies, so just do it now!

I’ll keep you updated on my training and the fundraising’s progress, and after the two races are over, I’ll provide a recap of the races and the success of the entire Miles for Miracles team.

Thanks!
–Mark

P.S.: Feel free to forward this to (1) any runner you know who might want to help out a fellow runner, or (2) anyone who is looking for a great place to make a final 2009 charitable donation!
